Cycling through living history
The landscape and human history of the Kraichgau lies before you on this tour from the source of the Elsenz to the Neckar. Here, however, we focus our 'magnifying glass' on a section – the 'Museum Cycle Path' from Mühlbach to Sinsheim (25 km). The history along the path is freely accessible in fields and meadows, forests, orchards and vineyards – and in half a dozen museums. First, take a little reading tour through the gently rolling hills: learn about the work of the stonemasons in the historic town hall of Mühlbach.

(Tip: A virtual tour
on the website of the town of Eppingen offers initial insights):
There is also a stonemason's hut on 120 sqm here. At the next stop, you will stand before a total artwork: the 'Raußmühle' is lived and tangible Middle Ages
– with Madonna, mousetraps and mortar sacks, chicken and pig…

True anti-everyday! Step by step you go back to a time that some see as 'darkness', others as high culture. And both are right.

In Eppingen on the German Timber-Frame Road, the old town invites you as an 'open-air museum' with the unique timber-frame path – a must for lovers. The timber-frame museum in the Old University informs in detail what the 'potato-cult' town shows.

Tip: From Eppingen you can shorten the section at 5 other DB train stations or do 'train cycling'. In Richen, don't miss the farmers' museum. You will see everyday culture, kitchen, living and sleeping rooms from old times there.

The cycle route signs 'Elsenztal-Tour' point the way through idyllic forest meadows with nice resting places. Often, the Kraichgau lies at your feet in a panoramic view all around. Following the Elsenz, a few kilometres further on in the museum farm 'Lerchennest' (Steinsfurt) – an old Alemannic estate – you learn something from the time of Frederick the Great. The bust of 'Old Fritz' also adorns
the cycle route signs. In the Kraichgau metropolis Sinsheim, the city and

freedom museum opens a time gate to the 1848 revolution: Hecker proclaimed the republic here. Via Hoffenheim ('football village') it goes on to Zuzenhausen (small castle, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim training centre) to the destination Neckargemünd on Germany's number 1 romantic river – the Neckar.

Tour info: A leisurely family tour always along the river – all the way to the Neckar! (Signposted to Zuzenhausen)
