Overview

About this route

4

Route No. 4 takes you through the hilly terrain around Hirschau, the city of white earth. The name is well-deserved, for kaolin is extracted here in open-pit mining (a raw material for porcelain production). White quartz sand is produced as a 'by-product'. Over time, a white mountain has grown from this. Due to the special property of the sand (round grains), it has today become an unusual delight. With a drag lift and rental skis, one can elegantly sweep down from the 'Monte Kaoline', especially in summer (great view). Along this route, you will repeatedly have a wonderful view of the 'Monte'. Here, the international summer ski-sand and Bigfoot World Championships take place every year. After an exciting descent, a jump into the pools of the dune bath (outdoor pool/camping site) at the foot of this artificial mountain cools you down. It is also worth taking a detour from Großschönbrunn to the Vils spring. And don't forget, amidst all the cycling fun, to visit the herb garden in Schnaittenbach (city of tradition preservation/natural bath with ample camping facilities).
