05 Day 5, Vitoria-Gasteiz - Oñati

Day 5 sees the last stage of the Vía Verde Vasco-Navarro being followed as far as just beyond Arrasate-Mondragón before branching off to the pleasant town of Oñati. The route is straight forward once found on leaving Viroria-Gasteiz. The only problem is that, once again, a tunnel closure just beyond Landa Station leaves a detour of a very rough track. An easier alternative is to take the A-627 then the GI-627 up and over to Eskoriatza where the Vía Verde can be picked up once more. An asphalt surface on a dedicated bike path continues on through urban sprawl before turning right brings the route to an end in the lovely town of Oñati.
