Přírodní rezervace Zelenov

The Zelenov Nature Park adjoins the protected landscape area of Český les and the eponymous nature park. The landscape with increased aesthetic value was assessed over 97% of the park's area. The majority of the park, with its highest peak Dmout (602 m above sea level), is covered by spruce forests, complemented by alder groves, copses, and scattered greenery. The geological substrate of the nature park consists of biotite schists with transitions to biotite to biotitic paragneiss. In some places, diverse mesophilic meadows have been preserved, and on former wet meadows, tall herbaceous vegetation has developed. At the edge of the pond, rarer plant species occur, such as marsh cinquefoil (Comarum palustre) or skullcap (Scutellaria galericulata). The middle Zelenov pond, with an area of 1.4 hectares, is part of a group of ponds lying on the Zubrina stream in one of the most beautiful valleys of our region. Within this area is one of the four locations in the Czech Republic where the critically endangered stone crayfish (Austropotamobius torrentium) occurs. At the same time, it is the only known location in our country where it coexists with the noble crayfish (Astacus astacus). Apart from the crayfish, the presence of other legally protected animals has been registered, namely the river mussel (Anodonta cygnea) and the common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis). Both are also classified as heavily endangered species. The ponds and surrounding forests are owned by the town of Domažlice and are managed by the municipal organization Městské lesy. A tourist trail runs through the area, connecting Domažlice with the recreation center Babylon.
