30.6. Chambord

After a record short (50 km) drive back to the Loire riverside camping and straight away cycling towards Chambord, which is the largest castle in the Loire region (fun facts: 156 meters long, 365 chimneys, and a 35 km long garden wall). The signage leads us astray once again, and we have to rely on the map and compass.

After Chambord, we continue along forest paths to Bracieux and then onto Cheverny, which is reached by a well-signposted village road. One cannot even access the outside of Cheverny Castle without paying an entrance fee, so we decide to skip it and instead stop for a refreshment break halfway.

The return journey is chosen at random in places, as we do not want to retrace our own steps. However, the route via Huisseau is found without wandering, and thanks to the tailwind, the journey goes quickly. Some of the roads designated for cycling are, however, hopelessly in poor condition.

A thousand kilometers was reached right at the beginning of the return trip.
