El Pla de Corones (Kronplatz), situado en el corazón del Tirol del Sur, es uno de los colosos más singulares y duros del panorama ciclista alpino. Su cima, coronada por una explanada de pistas de esquí y una imponente estructura panorámica, ha sido protagonista de algunas de las jornadas más espectaculares del Giro de Italia, especialmente desde que en 2008 se incluyera como final de etapa en contrarreloj individual, quedando grabado para siempre por su mezcla de rampas extremas y superficie de grava en los últimos kms.
