Do Kamienia Slaskiego

Opole cycling routes. We are heading to Kamień Śląski.

The title is a bit misleading because it's hard to find a cycling route that goes through Opole. One can mention the "Winów Hills Trail" which exists or existed (though it's very "faded").

The band Kult sings "You can count on friends, they will help you." And that is true! The Tarnów Opolski municipality has extended a marked cycling route all the way to Opole for us. Admittedly, just a little beyond the city limits, but still something. As the saying goes, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."

The trail starts in the Malina district (not to be confused with Malinka) at the main intersection, namely at the junction of Olimpijska and Leonida Teligi streets. If someone cannot find the first trail sign, they should take Teligi street to Gagarina street.

Here the asphalt ends, and a crushed stone, hardened road begins, leading us into the forest.

The road is of quite good quality. Foresters maintain its condition since it is a firebreak road, a forest track designed to enable fire units to reach a specific forest area if needed.

We delve into the forest to soon cross the railway crossing of the Opole - Strzelce route.

The tracks are a signal for us to pay closer attention to trail markings. We don't chat with friends here, as then we risk going straight, following the road, and end up near Przywory. Shortly after the tracks, a left turn is required. The road leads us to Kosorowice. It's worth remembering that next to the sports field in Kosorowice there's a wooden changing room with a shelter under which you can take refuge in case of rain.

In Kosorowice, we return to asphalt. To get to Kamień Śląski, we travel on the "normal" road, following road signs. The trail follows this publicly accessible road. These roads, especially on weekends, are almost empty, and even inexperienced cyclists feel safe on them.

In Kamień, it's worth "exploring" a bit to see the large glacial erratic rock in the village center, the ruins of a lime kiln, the airfield, the Polish Konik horse breeding, and of course the palace-park complex.

The length of the route from Malina to Kamień is 12 kilometers. Worth it!

More experienced riders can set off from Kamień to the Holy Anna Mountain. But "about that later", meaning another time :)
