Hochwald-Mosel

On this 'Eight', you can get on at any point along the route and it offers 'A Bit of Everything'. Without the section from Kirschweiler to Tiefenstein, about 95 km can be ridden. From Katzenloch to Kempfeld, there is an ascent to overcome (about 2 km). It continues hilly up to above Hellertshausen and then turns left onto Gerstenmaierweg. About 5 km climb up to the height of 720. The gradient is moderate, only in the last section does it become a bit steeper. Until Hinzerath, there is a steep descent followed by a short ascent up to the Hunsrückerhöhenstraße (B327). This is crossed (dangerous intersection!).

Variant 1 goes via Longkamp to the L 187 (Wildbadstraße Kautenbachtal), which largely descends towards Traben-Trarbach. A short stop at the harbor is recommended, after which it goes up the Moselle past Wolf, Lösnich, Zeltingen to Bernkastel (about 25 km). Here too, a stop is mandatory to enjoy the surroundings before heading up to the Hunsrück. The 7 km towards Longkamp are not extremely steep, as they are 'softened' by the hairpins. (Note: I find the route in reverse a bit tougher).

From Longkamp, there are another 6 km with some elevation. After crossing the B327, there is a short descent to Hinzerath and then over 2.5 km the last effort of the tour. The ascent to the height becomes increasingly steeper and in the last quarter really intense, with 10%. From Bruchweiler and Sensweiler to Katzenloch, the loop ends.
