About This Route

Der "Egger Riese" an der Kreisstraße zwischen Itterbeck und Egge ist ein Relikt aus der Eiszeit. Er gilt als der größte Findling in der Niedergrafschaft. Mit einem Gletscher kam der tonnenschwere Stein aus Skandinavien und blieb rund 150.000 Jahre flach liegen. 1970 stellte man den Koloss inmitten einer Heidefläche mit natürlichem Gehölzbewuchs auf. Itterbeck ist bekannt für seine Heidegebiete, in der sich noch einzelne Wacholderbestände befinden. An der Straße nach Wielen befindet sich ein 40 Hektar großes Naturschutzgebiet, das von Schafen beweidet wird.
