Matjesbrötchen in Sierksdorf

The starting point of this almost 50 km long tour is located behind the local swimming pool. The unpaved but well-travelled bike/pedestrian path runs along the Great Eutiner Lake directly to Eutin Castle (visit possible?). Past the castle, there are two ways to continue. Either take the cobblestone Jungfernstieg straight ahead to Oldenburger Landstraße or turn left into the castle park and follow the paths there (... much more pleasant...). Upon reaching Oldenburger Landstraße, the path leads left, over a combined bike/pedestrian path, to the junction just behind "Jungfernort". Here again, there are 2 options for continuing. Either you use the new paved bike path along Oldenburger Landstr., or you cycle 100m further and then follow the unpaved but very well-travelled path along the Great Eutiner Lake towards "Redderkrug" (hotel/restaurant with a very good menu). Just a short distance past "Redderkrug" you get back on Oldenburger Landstraße and follow it on the left side until the turning right towards Zarnekau.!!! Be careful when crossing the Oldenburger Landstraße or also L 57. Speed limits for drivers seem to apply only in part here!!! You follow the street Am Sandfeld and Dorfstraße until you reach the junction (... on the left...) Griebeler Weg, which transitions into Vinzierer Weg. Going through Zum hohen Kühn and Zum Major, you reach Neustädter Str. At the level of the village of Gömnitz, it is worth getting off the bike and climbing to the Gömnitz tower. Although it is located at a height of 150 m, the views from there reward the effort of the climb. Upon arriving at Neustädter Str., you keep left towards Roge or Neustadt until you reach the junction (... to the right...) Dorfstraße. You follow this to the federal road L 309, cross it carefully and cycle right until you reach the junction (... to the left...) Altonaer Weg. Don't worry, you're not in Hamburg's namesake district. Past the Süseler Lake on the right-hand side, you head towards Sierksdorf Airport, which is clearly visible from afar, pass under the A1 motorway and come out automatically at "Am Strande". Here is the restaurant "Zum Wattwurm" where I have at least one herring sandwich and 1 or 2 half liters of "Alsterwasser" every year.

Feeling refreshed, I begin the return trip. I cycle along the promenade towards Haffkrug to the junction "Waldweg" (... pedestrian traffic light...). I follow the forest path until the junction to the left towards Breitenkamp, again passing under the A1 and reaching Bundesstraße 432. After crossing it carefully, I cycle right towards Pönitz. Behind the Gronenberger Mill, I cross Bundesstraße 432 again at the pedestrian traffic light and follow the village road to the junction (... on the left...) Am Redder. At this point, I realize that Schleswig-Holstein is not as flat as is generally claimed. At Am Redder, I continue to the junction of Ekholter Str. (L309), keep to the right, and then immediately turn left into Steenkamp. Be careful when crossing the L309!!! Following Steenkamp, I reach Alte Salzstraße/Kaninchenberg and continue right towards Woltersmühlen. Continuing along Alte Salzstraße, I reach Holmkamp, turn left, then immediately turn right into Oldenbrücke (... unpaved road...). I reach Fassensdorfer Weg, turn left and arrive in Gothendorf via Fassensdorf. In Gothendorf, I turn right and follow Langen Dörpstraat to the junction (... on the left...) into Möhlenkampsweg. This continues into Braaker Mühlenweg and ends in the village of Braak (Wilhlem-Wisser-Str.). I follow it to the right until I reach the junction of Braaker Str., turn left and arrive at Plöner Landstraße via Teichstraße. There I turn left and after about 200m I reach the local FAMILA market, where there is a grill station at the entrance and I take a break. After the break, I cycle over Geschwister-Scholl-Ring and Beuthiner Str. towards Blaue Lehmkuhle. Behind the local primary school, I turn left and reach (... below the pedestrian bridge...) the railway crossing Deefstieg. I follow Deefstieg to the left until I reach Riemannstraße. At Riemannstraße, I turn right and continue to the junction Kuhbergsredder. Following the signs, I reach the starting point, the swimming pool in Eutin, after just over 49 km.
