Malans - Maienfeld - Bad Ragaz

On sunny spring days the path from Malans to Bad Ragaz looks like a picturesque painting – above the colourful display of blossoming trees and vines fair‑weather clouds glide through the fresh air, while in the background the mountain slopes still covered in snow gleam. Shortly after leaving the small village of Malans you are already in the midst of the vineyards. To the south the Chur Rhine Valley widens; to the north‑east there is a wonderful view of the snow‑white slopes and mountain peaks, while in the woods below the light‑green budding deciduous trees stand out against the dark conifer forest. Observant walkers will spot the occasional castle ruin in the springtime scene, bearing witness to the eventful history of the Bündner lordship, involving various regional overlords and smaller noble families. The path, which mostly runs on hard surface, continues through the wine‑growing region dotted with woods, meadows and small settlements. Between Maienfeld and Fläsch you come across the Heidibrunnen, commemorating the writer Johanna Spyri, who was inspired by the region for her famous children's books. After crossing the Rhine the walk ends at Bad Ragaz station.
