4-Country Tour Through the Alps

  Day 1 Unfortunately, it rained for hours, so we shortened the first stage and set off from Mäder (Austria) instead of from Lake Constance. We arrived at our youth hostel in Schaan (Liechtenstein) in the dark.   Day 2 From now on it was fortunately mostly dry. However, it was so cloudy that we could hardly see the mountains around us. Still, we found Heidi in Maienfeld (Switzerland). Just like the Kunkelpass. In the evening in Thusis (Switzerland), we learned that the Splügenpass, our next destination, was closed due to a landslide.   Day 3 Instead, we rode through a gigantic landscape past snow-capped peaks over the Julierpass, which is 150 meters higher, and the Malojapass. It was already dark for a long time, but we finally managed to arrive in Chiavenna (Italy).   Day 4 For the first time, the sun shone uninterrupted and we finally had a good view. Despite the detour, we were determined to reach our goal: Lake Como. After dipping our hands in, we were able to ride on to Tirano (Italy) with a good feeling.   Day 5 Unfortunately, the Bernina Express does not carry bicycles. But the regional train follows the same route. The ride through villages and tunnels, past lakes and by Piz Bernina (4049 m) was an impressive experience. In the end, we also made up the route from Lake Constance to Mäder by bike.
