Circular por Valdepeñas

Circular route starting from Valdepeñas. We begin by climbing the Navalayegua pass. Once at the summit, we descend towards Pitillos, leaving aside the Coberteras pass, crossing the Valderazo river and heading to the Cortijo Prados Bajos. The ascent to Paredón begins there, through the Sierra del Trigo, reaching its highest point near the wind turbines of Frailes. From there we descend towards Frailes, then turn right into the Carboneros valley. We climb a small pass from which you can see the Hoya de Carboneros, leave behind the Tercero river that crosses this valley, continue and descend to Valdepeñas via a winding path that brings us back to the start at Navalayegua.

The route passes through beautiful landscapes of our southern Sierra of Jaén, featuring magnificent trees like the oak known as quejigo del amo, rivers and streams, ruins of what were once shepherds' houses, the stones of Pitillos, the windmills of Frailes, and more. Mediterranean forest abounds; there are areas for big game hunting and plenty of water spots. Recommended for its beauty and the toughness of its passes. It can be done any time of year—very tiring in summer, possibly snowy in winter, and offering stunning scenery in spring and autumn.
