About this route
A longer route, perfect for early risers looking for a rewarding ride.
We start strong at the Martinu and Casoca waterfalls, then continue on a forest road to the Bascai Mici valley, where we follow local road 173 towards Gura Milei. We'll pass through the Bascea Mare Gorge, with the road climbing above the wildest section (between the Cernatu and Basculita rivers), then tackle a steep ascent (average gradient 20%) towards Penteleu, where we'll find Tavul Lacul Rosu and enjoy views over the valley to the south, towards a small section of the Viforita reserve (old-growth spruces). We descend to Secuiu via the 7 Izvoare waterfall, detouring 1–2 km towards the Bascai Mici Gorge. Then it's downhill to Vadul Oii, Varlaam, and after Basca Rozilei we rejoin DN10, reaching Siriu in the evening after a few more kilometers. Optionally, you can find accommodation in Varlaam/Gura Teghii to continue the next day towards Lopatari, the Melenic karst, Focul Viu, rock settlements, and more...
