La Cabrera-El berrueco-Lozoyuela-Valdemanco 08.06.13

Counter-clockwise solo route of 40.64 km in 3:23 hours and a total of 4:07. It includes sections of trail, road, and singletrack climbs and descents that, in some stretches, must be done on foot. The road section at the beginning, being downhill and for warm-up, is pleasant (2 km). Then, when turning right, going down to the reservoir and circling it is uncomplicated, even until km 20 where you take the road towards Lozoyuela. This is another simple and fast road stretch. Once you cross Lozoyuela, almost at km 24, at 1.6 km, you take a track to the right that has a very steep section of about 50 m that I have to do on foot. From there to the ridge leading to the Lozoya valley, it is steep but doable, and then the descent. Following a climb until km 30 when you reach the pass of Medio Celemín, above Valdemanco. Right at the pass, it starts to rain, so I do the descent and then the exit from Valdemanco via the GR-10 in the downpour. The uphill section on the GR-10, past the new cemetery, must be done in pieces on foot due to the stones and the pine trees. The subsequent descent also has sections to be done on foot. I don’t think it’s worth it, although the views of Cancho Gordo are very interesting. They are high steps that are impossible. You reach La Cabrera via the convent of San Antonio and I cross it without looking for more paths.
