Zwei-Brauereien-Tour

The tour, which passes two of the region's most interesting castles and several baroque palaces, begins in the medieval Seßlach. From there, it goes to the floodplains of the Rodach and continues through meadows and fields. The first half of the route has a sporty character. Only after 12 kilometers of legwork do the sights begin to line up. The first stop, the ruins of Altenburg, spectacularly towering over a wide valley, forms the perfect backdrop for a picnic. Through a dense forest, the route continues on a ridge to the ruins of Lichtenstein. During the subsequent descent into the valley, in good visibility, the nearly world-famous baroque wonder of the Kloster Vierzehnheiligen comes into view, almost 20 kilometers away. Schloss Gereuth, with its beer garden and restaurant, invites you to complement the scenic pampering program with a culinary one. Fortified with homemade cake and Franconian delicacies, we now proceed along the wide valley of the Itz River. In Untermerzbach, Memmelsdorf, and Heilgersdorf, the eye is treated once again - with plenty of timber-framed houses and a baroque castle with its own house ghost. Satisfied with impressions, we return to Seßlach, where the day can comfortably end in a rustic beer garden or tavern.
