About this route

3

This tour is designed for cyclists looking for a sporting challenge without over-exerting themselves. It starts in Seßlach, whose closed medieval townscape invites a stroll through its alleys. Already passing through the southern city gate, the first and steepest of six climbs begins. About 200 meters later, a rapid descent compensates for the sweat lost. In comparison, the next two appear like model train versions of a hill, requiring only the strength of small toes. Until now, the route has taken us through a varied low mountain landscape. This changes with the next descent. At high speed, the path leads into the Itzgrund, a wide valley that floods in spring from the melting water of the Thuringian Forest. After three flat kilometers, we await the fourth climb in the village of Scherneck. This first leads back up to the ridge and then continues to the castle hill of Hohenstein, where the quaint garden of the wine tavern 'Alte Henne' offers the opportunity to restore fluid balance. Two more, distinctly milder climbs and descents later, we find ourselves back in the cozy old town of Seßlach with its charming inns.
