Ruta de La Herguijuela

A cycling route starting in Toril, Extremadura, Spain.

Overview

About this route

1

The route runs entirely through typical Extremadura dehesa, mostly quite flat. It is not recommended to do it in rainy weather, as the path becomes impassable. We start on the road from Bazagona to Monfragüe, right at the beginning of the yellow route of Monfragüe. We continue on the left path until El Toril. The first 10 kilometers are the most uncomfortable as it is gravel and shakes quite a bit. We head towards the Palacio de las Cabezas, which we will leave on our left until we reach Casa Tejada, from here to Saucedilla and Almaraz (note, we leave these towns on the left, we do not enter any of them). On this stretch we will be seeing the reservoir and the Ornithological Park of Arrocampo. We turn right, following the path of Almaraz, heading towards Serrejon, also passing by the tails of the La Anguila reservoir. From Serrejon we head towards the Sierra de la Herguijuela, from where we will have beautiful views and the Navacalera estate, where there are many chances to see deer. Once we have left the sierra, we head back to the starting point, (this section with rain is very complicated).
