Chimborazo Extremo has been rated as the toughest MTB race in Ecuador, due to an elevation gain of nearly 2000 positive meters, as well as typical mountain weather (cold, rain, wind, and snow).

Route: From Urbina (3600 meters above sea level) following the old Panamerican route to the 4 esquinas sector, then upwards along the ice carriers' path until joining the paved Riobamba-Guaranda road, and then via trails and dirt roads to reach the Chimborazo Carrel Refuge (4800 meters above sea level). Distance: Approximately 40.5 km (10.5 km cobblestone, 5 km asphalt, and 25 km dirt).
