Our Japanese Adventure 2014!!!

A cycling route starting in Narita, Chiba, Japan.

Overview

About this route

1

This is the route that we can take for our grand Japanese adventure. I selected some campgrounds, public parks, and other places that we can sleep at. I also seleced three WWOOF farms, one in Tokyo, on in Koga (about half way through the trip), and one in Hiroshima. Do you think three is enough or so you want more? This is just a possible route and none of this is set in stone. I've been working on this like since we got back from Japan.

Points of interest along the route

  1. Point of interest after 0.4 km

When we first get to Japan, we will land at Narita International Airport. We should find a farm that is located near Narita, so we don't have to travel farm. I found a nice WWOOF rice farm in Narita. Its identification number is 3121. We will stay there for anywhere between 7 and 14 days. We can venture into Tokyo during this time and buy cheap/used bicycles, or we can get the bikes after we leave the farm.

  2. Point of interest after 77 km

Shibuya is the area in Tokyo where all of the Love Hotels are. Love Hotels are hotels where sexually frustrated teens and businessmen can sneak away and do the dirty with their respective lovers. I don't have anything dirty on my mind, I just think it would be cool to be able to tell people that I've been to a Japanese love hotel. Plus they are usually cheap and each as their own ridiculous theme. If not, we can always sleep at Yoyogi park Narita to Shibuya, Tokyo is 45 miles.

  3. Point of interest after 82 km

This is the location of Suginami Silver Human Resources Center. Once a month they hold a recycled bicycle sale, where you can buy all types of bikes for really cheap; from ¥6,500 to ¥15,000, or like $65 to $150. We can buy bicycles here. Once we do that, the adventure can begin. The bicycle store is only 5 miles from the Love Hotel District. Good for us!

  4. Point of interest after 141.5 km

Kodayama park is a pretty big park located in Hiratsuka. We can probably sleep in the park if we don't set up until very late and leave very early in the morning. If it is raining, we can try to set up a tent, but if it seems to be nice out, we can just sleep in sleeping bags.

  5. Point of interest after 184.7 km

Ashinoko Camp-mura is located in Hakone, Kanagawa Pref. They allow camping all year round. The price for one tent for one night is ¥1,575. They have bath services, vending machines, and water, toilet, and cooking facilities. It is the only camp site I can find in Kanagawa Pref. It would be 56 miles from Tokyo, and considering the traffic around Tokyo, we may not be able to get here in one day.

  6. Point of interest after 242 km

Saiko Lakeside Camping-mura. It is located by Lake Saiko, just a few miles away from Mt. Fuji. The rate is ¥2,000 per tent plus ¥500 per person per night. They have showers with stalls, vending machines, and water, toilet, and cooking facilities. This would be an excellent campsite, the only problem is that it might be crowded. It is 35 miles from Hakone.

  7. Point of interest after 295 km

We can definitely sleep in this park. It it right by the ocean and there is a lot of tree cover so we probably wont be bothered even if we do set up a tent for the night. It is 35 miles from Lake Saiko campsite

  8. Point of interest after 342 km

I am pretty sure that we will be able to camp out in this park. It is a sea side park so i am sure there is a beach that we can sleep on for the night, as long as we leave early the next morning. This park is 30 miles from Fuji city, the last place we were.

  9. Point of interest after 422.8 km

This is one of the parks that we can sleep at. It is large enough to where no one will probably bother us. If this particular park doesn't work out, then we can always ride around until we find a better one. Laka Hanama is around 50 miles from Shizuoka.

  10. Point of interest after 492.9 km

This would be a nice camp ground to camp at. It does not give any information on the rate, but I can't imagine it being terribly expensive. The distance between here and Lake Hamana is 40 miles.

  11. Point of interest after 552.4 km

This seems like a really nice park to camp at. It is large enough to hide in and it is right next to a zoo, so we have something to do during the day, It is 36 miles away from the last camp site.

  12. Point of interest after 603.6 km

This looks like a nice park to sleep at for the night. It is near the ocean and seems to be large enough. It is located 32 miles from the park/zoo in Nagoya.

  13. Point of interest after 660.7 km

The 2nd WWOOF farm that we can go to is lcated in Koga. It is a dairy farm that also has sheep, goats, ostriches, and peafowls. I think its pretty cool. We can stay here for a week or so to relax.

  14. Point of interest after 722.5 km

There are not a lot of public parks in Kyoto. That's so strange. Still, we might be able to sleep in this one. If not, I am sure we can find an internet cafe we can sleep in, or is worst comes to worst, a nice alley.

  15. Point of interest after 819.8 km

I think we should stay at the Agriculture Park, just because.

  16. Point of interest after 862.7 km

Himeji-shiritsu Somendaki camp site which is located in Tohoro, Himeji. This would be such a good campsite, but it says a reservation is required, which might be a problem. The rate is ¥260 per person per night! I hope the reservation thing is bull.

  17. Point of interest after 981 km

This seems like a cool campground that we can stop at in Okayama. The fee is ¥1,200 per person though, so that's a little up there.

  18. Point of interest after 1,041.8 km

  19. Point of interest after 1,106.4 km

A WWOOF farm is located on this island. Their identification number is 2328. They have some fruit orchards and bees to make honey. This seems really cool. They said that swimming is a possibility. I like this one. It is 24 miles away from Higashihiroshima.

  20. Point of interest after 1,143.3 km

    The Campsite on Miyajima!

  21. Point of interest after 1,143.3 km

If we have time, we can take a ferry from Shinmonoseki to Busan, South Korea. We would just have to bike another 100 miles. Nothing major. The ferry is a little expensive, like $70-$90, but I wold like to say that I've been to South Korea. The ferry is 13 hours.
