  • What is special about this route? Why recommend this route? What did you like most about it? Riding through vast forests in a former military area with minimal settlement, quality asphalt forest roads without car traffic, an attractive ride on the runway of a former military airfield in Ralsko (beware of potential drivers testing the top speed of their cars, it can be bypassed via the taxiway), wildlife, Máchovo Lake... Given that the route passes through a former military area, there are limited refreshment options along the way - restaurants are outside the start and finish only in Hradčany, Staré Splavy, and Malá Bělá, with additional shops in Klášter and Ploužnice. Of all the Ralsko routes 1 to 3, this one is the most beautiful and interesting; it also has the advantage that unlike Ralsko routes 1 and 2, it travels the entire distance on a solid surface (except for about 10 meters of footpath behind the military airfield), although its quality is very low at times (sections Mukařov - Jabloneček, some parts of the Židlov - Hvězdov section, road from Dolní Krupá to Bělá pod Bezdězem). However, it is also physically a bit more demanding than the Ralsko routes 1 and 2. * Route progression: From the station in Mnichovo Hradiště we ride through the town towards Klášter Hradiště nad Jizerou. We cross the Jizera and from the village of Klášter Hradiště nad Jizerou (last store before the former military area) continue along a little-used road through a picturesque valley against the current of the Zábrdky stream through Dolní Bukovinu to the settlement of Borovice. After Borovice, we need to find an unused and unmarked forest road towards Jabloneček, which is not completely easy to navigate. Then we go straight through the forest past the former village of Jabloneček and the Židlov nature reserve until we reach Ploužnice (store). Here we cross the main road and enter an ex-Soviet panel housing estate. After a while we turn left and between the ruins of former military buildings we reach the airport. We cross the airport on the runway (beware of drivers who sometimes test the speed of their cars here, in such cases it is much safer to drive on the adjacent taxiway) to its western end, where in its southwest corner we take a concrete road westward. After a while, we see a parallel asphalt road to the left between the trees - we go through the woods towards it and turn left onto it. This brings us to the settlement of Hradčany (tavern, information center). From Hradčany we ride along the asphalt bike path to Staré Splavy (restaurants, taverns, shops, swimming in Máchovo Lake). From Staré Splavy we take the roundabout road around Máchovo Lake to the intersection with road No. 270, where we turn left and after a few hundred meters exit the road to the right onto a forest road. This road is very poor, but soon we reach a T-intersection where we turn right, and the quality of the road significantly improves. We pass by the forest lodge, after which we gently turn left and then go straight along the so-called Mariánská cesta until we reach a tourist rest area (benches and table on the right side of the road), where we turn left onto bike route number 25 towards Kuřivody. Along this bike route (which often curves but is fairly well marked) we reach the Kuřivody - Bělá pod Bezdězem road. Here we turn right. The road initially goes straight across the flat area, but after a while, it begins to descend and turn right. Right at this bend, we have to sharply exit the road left onto an unused and unmarked forest road towards Dolní Krupá. On this road, we will go straight, ascend a short serpentine and then continue straight through the forest and then across a picturesque meadow (former shooting range). The road will begin to descend slowly, the descent becoming steeper as we enter the outskirts of the village of Dolní Krupá. Here we will enter the main road No. 268, along which we will only ride a few hundred meters towards Mnichovo Hradiště to the center of the village, where we will turn right onto the side road towards Bělá pod Bezdězem. We ascend the initial hill (one serpentine), exit the village, and then travel on level ground first through a field and then through the forest until we reach the asphalt forest road called Mariánská cesta (or also bike route 8150, although marking on the ground is lacking), which branches left off the road. We will turn onto it and now the final section of the route awaits us. We descend down the aforementioned asphalt forest road and then down the road to the village of Malá Bělá (store, tavern, restaurant), from where it is just a short distance to Bakov nad Jizerou. Alternatively, it is possible to continue on the side road along the Jizera to Mladá Boleslav.
