Colline Oientali
A cycling route starting in Laigueglia, Liguria, Italy.
Overview
About this route
The GPS track starts from the San Pietro hamlet near Molino Nuovo. To reach the start of the track, simply take the road from the highway roundabout that goes up the valley for 3 km. Up to Stellanello, you can follow the asphalt road, but if you decide to follow the GPS track, it will often take you on dirt levees and even through the river. Upon arriving at Stellanello, where the road continues left passing over a bridge to Testico, go straight (fountain), pass through the old village turning under an arch on the right and continuing straight uphill under another arch. Follow until you reach an asphalted section (end of a road), turn right and continue until you see a dirt road rising on the left... take it. To avoid taking a wrong turn, remember that at every intersection (disregard the paths going into olive groves) always turn right and climb up to the Canneto hamlet (in the village, descending 30 m the mule track contains a spring). After Canneto, after 70 m climbing, descend to the right and then continue with the first on the left. Turning left you descend; pay attention when there will be a sharp curve to the right (almost like a hairpin), straight ahead continues an almost flat road, follow it will lead you to the Caio hamlet... but before the hamlet, there is a ramp partly cemented and partly mule track with a steep gradient... From Caio continue on asphalt always climbing until you reach St Damiano and the panoramic road... cross the village and before leaving it, just after the last curve on the left on the downhill side of the road (your right) the mule track that crosses the entire Villalunga hamlet begins (moderate your speed, the hamlet is inhabited)... Ride it all the way until it emerges onto a long asphalt downhill straight (first crossing twice the asphalt road connecting Stellanello to St Damiano)... Towards the end of the straight on the left descending starts a dirt road, which initially goes downhill but then after 400m starts climbing... follow it until you pop back onto the asphalt road (asphalt road connecting Stellanello to St Damiano) and continue climbing up to the little church... Take the asphalt panoramic road in the direction of Alassio... Follow it until you cross the gas pipeline (70m before on the panoramic road there is a row of cypress trees)... Here begins a challenging and technical descent; pay attention according to your abilities and the bike you have (I've done it even with an XC hardtail)... moreover, at one point bikes have really dug out a lot and you have to get off and walk for 25m!!! Once you emerge onto the valley floor provincial road, turn left, after the bridge leading to the Moltedo hamlet (on the right) turn left just before the U’vescù restaurant, enter the village, upon reaching a chapel turn left and immediately after right, climb up and turn left, continue climbing, but at the first on right take it... continue along this mid-slope road (some small ups and downs) among the olive trees until after a descent you reach a dead end wideness, but where on the right starts a path going uphill, follow it (hard to take on the pedals)... you reach a descending dirt road, follow it until the first left uphill to take... you arrive under the photovoltaic plant and do the last little ramp... take the asphalt road downhill until an old closing gate, which is always open, take a dirt road on the left... follow the dirt road uphill pass under the highway... continuing, after a false flat, the climb resumes... before a small flat on the right starts the path to follow (it is part of the Laigueglia Trophy route but done in the opposite way)... Do the whole mid-slope until you meet the first ridge coming from the upper ridge or watershed of the valley below... just before the watershed on the right partly hidden by broom (only in the first 20 meters then it's very clear) the descent starts... the descent begins with a bit of a false flat then changes slope and passes through a series of walls to jump or passages to copy, then another false flat and finally a steep section among rock slabs... you pass under the highway again and then going straight you come out on the mule track of Loc. Negri... moderate speed the hamlet is inhabited... after the mule track, you reach the provincial road and return to Andora...
