Weser-Radweg

The Weser Cycle Route runs for 500 km through the federal states of Bremen, Hesse, Lower Saxony, and North Rhine-Westphalia. It begins at the confluence of the Werra and Fulda rivers near Hannoversch Münden and follows the course of the river to its mouth at the North Sea near Bremerhaven. From there, it continues to Cuxhaven where it meets the Elbe Cycle Route. The length of the cycle path exceeds the 452 river kilometers by about 50 kilometers because it cannot always precisely follow the river's course. For large parts, there are cycle paths on both sides of the river, so besides the official main route, there are almost always alternative sections. In the Weserbergland region, the route passes many historic half-timbered towns, and the romantic charm of the Weser Renaissance enchants every cyclist. Between Rinteln and Porta Westfalica, there are several windmills – here the route intersects with the Mühlenroute cycle path – and lakes with recreational facilities. From Minden, the route runs without significant climbs through the North German Plain along the Middle Weser with its weirs, dams, and locks, through geest and marsh (alluvial) landscapes. At the Hanseatic city of Bremen begins the approximately 90-kilometer section along the Lower Weser.
