Following Border Abbey Way signposts proceed out of Hawick climbing along minor road through farmland and onto moorland tracks, forest paths and rough trails.
( Signposted as Border Abbey Way with distinctive W or marker with yellow arrow.)
About half way the village of Ashkirk lies a mile to the west (with pub and bus stop) Continue along BAW mainly through farmland and over wooden stiles.
Just south of Howden Hill (See marker) track joins Cross Border Drove Road for alternative route to west avoiding Selkirk and rejoining St Wifrid's Way at Bowhill Estate main entrance.
Continue along BAW down into the outskirts of Selkirk through the Haining Estate past Haining House onto the West Port and then up into the centre of Selkirk (many B&Bs and pubs, shops etc)
