Overview

About this route

1

The start is at 400 meters elevation in Burkhardtsdorf. The route then proceeds leisurely via Auerbach to Geyer and from there continues up the Zachopau valley to Crottendorf. There, you enter the forest, which is only left again at the Fichtelberg (1214 m). The surface alternates between tarmac and compacted gravel but is still manageable on a road bike. From Fichtelberg, the route continues along the Erzgebirge ridge to Plattenberg (1040 m) and further to Johanngeorgenstadt. From there, you roll down the valley to Schwarzenberg. Here comes the last of the three major climbs to Beierfeld. Via Grünhain you reach Zwönitz, from where you simply ride back down the valley to Burkhardtsdorf. Although the route is not very long at 124 km, it is challenging. With a total elevation gain of 2063 m, it is suitable only for very enduring riders.
