The steepest section is 10 km long. It is located in Tyrol, west of Innsbruck, between Zirl and Seefeld.

The highest point is the border pass Brennero - Brenner at 1374 m above sea level.

The Brenner Pass (it. Passo del Brennero, de. Brennerpass) is one of the most important alpine passes at the border between Austria and Italy, located at an altitude of 1374 m above sea level. It separates the Zillertal Alps from the Stubai Alps in the Central Alps.

Due to its relatively low altitude, the Brenner is the most convenient transit route connecting Germany with Italy - the Austrian A13 motorway and the Italian A22 motorway. A road runs alongside it. They connect Innsbruck and Munich with Verona.

The passage through Brenner was known as far back as antiquity. It was often used in the Middle Ages. In the second half of the 19th century, a railway line was built through the Brenner. Due to the convenience of the connection, it did not require the construction of a tunnel. There is a train station at the pass, and on its southern, Italian side, there is a small border village called Brenner, which was expanded during Mussolini's time to serve the border and customs posts.

Currently, all borders of Italy with Austria (since December 1, 1997) are internal borders of the Schengen area, where, according to the Schengen Agreement, no passport checks are carried out, and crossing is permitted at any place and at any time; therefore, there are no border crossings.
