    Vogt: Gasthaus Adler: Im 5. Jahrhundert waren die Franken Herren Oberschwabens. Das heutige Gemeindegebiet lag im damaligen Argengau. Im Jahre 834 gehörte die Siedlung zum Kloster St. Gallen. Von hier stammt auch die erste urkundliche Erwähnung des Hofes Schachen als „Birseachin“ aus dem Jahre 834. Den Welfen folgten als neue Herren die Staufer. Nach deren Ende wurden alle staufischen Besitzungen unter König Rudolf I. von Habsburg zur Reichsvogtei Schwaben zusammengefasst.     Die Waldburg: Von weitem sichtbar auf einer Kuppe gelegen, erhebt sich das Wahrzeichen von Waldburg, die gleichnamige Burg. Sie ist älter als die Siedlung unterhalb der Burg. Im 9. Jahrhundert gehörte das Gebiet zur „Marca Arengaunesium“ und somit zum Frankenreich. Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung geht auf das Jahr 1147 zurück, zur Zeit der Welfenherrschaft.
