Wasbüttel - NSG Düpenwiesen - Wasbüttel 30.04.2013

Excursion to the Düpenwiesen nature reserve near Sandkamp. The Düpenwiesen are a lowland peatland area of about 190 hectares, located west of Wolfsburg and south of the Barnbruch wetland. It consists of two protected areas, Düpenwiesen and southern Düpenwiesen, separated by a road. The Düpenwiesen are part of the European Natura 2000 network. The Düpenwiesen are bounded by the eastern Barnbruch forest to the north, the Mittelland Canal to the south, the federal motorway A39 to the east, and the Weyhäuser Weg and the adjacent Barnbruch meadows to the west. The district road 114 ('Nordtangente'), which runs from Wolfsburg to Gifhorn, cuts through the nature reserve, dividing it into the northern Düpenwiesen (120 ha) and the southern southern Düpenwiesen (70 ha). A few kilometers westwards towards Gifhorn lies the Ilkerbruch wetland south of district road 114.
