Kratzeburg - Boeker Mühle - Federow - Waren

The cycling tour offers insights into and views of the typical and most beautiful landscapes of the Müritz National Park. The eastern shore of Germany's largest inland lake is shaped by water in many different ways.

Starting from Waren, the route goes through forests, meadows, and reed areas, along many lakes that have been entirely left to nature, and to some interesting viewpoints. With a bit of luck, one can observe fish and sea eagles and many other bird species, such as, depending on the season, lapwings, cranes, and white storks. From the bike path, built on a dam between several-meter-high reeds and fallen birch trunks, the tranquility is only disturbed by the chirping of crickets, the croaking of frogs, and the tweeting of birds. The sun and the sparkling water of the Müritz create an impressive panorama.

In the GDR, this was the 'State Hunting Area Müritz', where the chairman of the State Council of the GDR, Willi Stoph, could pursue his hunting instincts for deer. The solitude and closeness to nature created in this way became an important component of the national park program at the time of reunification, as one of the last official acts of the GDR government.

For refreshment, the rotunda at the Bolter lock is recommended - here the fishermen of Müritz offer their fresh delicacies. Passing the many fish ponds, the journey continues via Amalienhof and Granzin to Kratzeburg - here there is again a rail connection on the route Rostock - Waren - Neustrelitz - Berlin.

The route also works in the opposite direction.
