Lünen Cross

Brief description: roll a few meters from the starting point. Just before the junction, get the first kick with a small descent (lower the saddle and shift your weight over the pedal). At the bottom, the passage is often denser with vegetation in full bloom, including nettles. At the end, go down briefly, aim at the point. When you reach the path, hold right and follow the way. The next "entry" is on the right side, so keep an eye out as the entrance is well overgrown and narrow.

You go briefly toward the cemetery through the underbrush, the turn to the cemetery path is rather tight, better if the ground is not too uneven. Turn left toward the canal, small climb up to the canal.

Pass Preußenhafen – caution, the wood is very slippery when wet, so better stay on the pavement.

Follow the canal and the Horstmarer Loch Track. It descends clearly, speed comes naturally. Therefore, also caution: pedestrians might be there. At the end, turn right or optionally turn back, anyway head toward the bridge and cross there.

On to the next entry to the Schloss Schwansbell Hügel Track. The entrance is just next to a sign and hard to spot. That track trains riding technique. It initially goes through fairly dense undergrowth, about halfway the thicket clears, but there are medium root passages. Also be careful with moisture here, as wood and roots mean slippery conditions. On the castle-facing side comes the turn of the track going gently uphill. After the last storms there might still be wood blocking the way. Shortly before the clearing, it goes up a bit again, and in the clearing the narrow path is often slippery after rain. Terrain-wise it is rather soft, only some bushes may require light contact. Somewhere in the last third was a big fallen tree across. After the curve, it goes downhill (there's a stair on the left you could ride down = technique training). Down again, hold left.

After the next bridge, left again a speed section. It goes downhill, loose ground with some stones and rain gutters sweeten the descent. At the end, hold right.

Shortly before Kamener Straße, there is a wetland on the right with moderately good ground to ride through. There, on Kamener Straße again, hold left, traffic light right and then cross to the next spoil heap.

I've only ridden around that heap twice so far. You have to see what is possible. It was a bit tricky but should also be fun. Then you go back.

At the intersection, try some cyclocross/forest trail along Kamener Straße toward the city center. Definitely more exciting than coming in via the waste disposal site access.

At the left-hand railway underpass, hold left then immediately left along the path. About halfway up, on the right is a slightly sloping trail entrance (I think there's a big landmark on the roadside for orientation).

Back on the way, turn left toward Schloss Schwansbell, cross over the canal, the rest is based on the map/local knowledge ;-) .
