Route description

Selbitztal Cycle Path along the Selbitz River from its source near Wüstenselbitz to its confluence with the Saale at Blankenstein.

From Helmbrecht station via Unterweißenbach on the cycle path to Wüstenselbitz to the Selbitz source at the natural outdoor pool (tour start), then back on the cycle path to Helmbrechts (town centre, Textile Museum) - through the town, then on the cycle path along the former railway track to Volkmannsgrün - continuing via Schauenstein (Fire Brigade Museum) - along the Selbitz to Weidesgrün - Selbitz (town centre, marketplace) - cycle path to Naila - on the cycle path past the railway station and following the Selbitz on the cycle path to Marxgrün - then along the Selbitz to Hölle (connection to the Euregio-Egrensis long-distance cycle route) - through the Höllental via Blechschmidtenhammer (Information Centre ‘Höllental’ of the Frankenwald Nature Park) to the confluence of the Selbitz into the Saale at Blankenstein (start of the Rennsteig; connection of the Selbitztal Cycle Path to the Saale Cycle Route) back via Blechschmidtenhammer through the Höllental to Hölle - along the railway line to Bad Steben station.

Difficulty level

Leisure cycling tour for recreational cyclists and families. Mostly flat route in the Selbitz valley, few moderate climbs.
