Carretera Austral 1. Etappe Puerto Montt - Caleta Puelche

Finally, our adventure 'Carretera Austral ' begins. We leave the city on the famous Ruta 7 heading south. For the first few hundred meters, we are even allowed to cycle on a bike path, a luxury we certainly won't have in the coming weeks. In Chamiza, we indulge ourselves with a short coffee break. The road here is still fully paved, another pleasure we won't have too often in the near future. Even though the Carretera Austral runs along the coast here, there are still some climbs to conquer. In the early afternoon, we reach Caleta La Arena. From here, we take the ferry over to Caleta Puelche, crossing early in the evening, as the weather is still promising and it stays light for a long time. However, since there are no campsites or cabañas in Puelche, we cycle a little further and pitch our tent in a sheltered spot by the sea. We are rewarded with a beautiful sunset.
