Carretera Austral 9. Etappe La Junta - Puyuhuapi

The Chilean road workers were diligent, so we were able to ride the first half of the day, with some interruptions, on a brand new, perfectly smooth asphalt road. We met a cyclist from England who is on a 2 1/2 year world trip, cycling the entire Panamericana and planning to ride to Ushuaia - chapeau. We rested at the German-run Hotel El Panque at Lago Risopatron. But after a few meters, the smooth road ended and we found ourselves back on a gravel road, which was also in a terrible state due to construction work. After many climbs and many curses, we finally rolled down to the sea. Having spent 9 days in the saddle, we decided to treat ourselves to a rest day here in peaceful Puyuhuapi. So we checked into a simple cabaña. We had an excellent dinner at Cafe Rossbach and also noticed that many residents have German roots.
