Carretera Austral 15.Etappe Chile Chico - Fachinal

After a short night we want to start early, but all cafés and restaurants are still closed, so we buy groceries at the supermarket and have breakfast in the park. Then it gets serious, the Chilean flag is flying opposite to our direction of travel, meaning we have headwind, and quite strong at that. The road is very gravelly in the first few kilometers and goes uphill, then the surface improves, but the strong and gusty wind often forces us off the bike, sometimes even downhill. After constant ups and downs, we reach the turnoff to Fachinal in the afternoon; it's just under 4 km there but it takes us an hour because the road surface is practically impassable with a loaded bike. The designated campsite does not exist, there is only a fragment of a former cabaña which we immediately occupy, because the wind also rages mercilessly here. The spot itself seems largely deserted, there is a church, a kindergarten, two abandoned houses and an aerodrome, an overgrown landing strip.
