Frau von Friedland und Albrecht Thaer

The start is at Seelow-Gusow train station. Points of interest along the route include Gusow Castle and Park, the whey house of Friedrich Karl Schinkel at the Bärwinkel estate, Neuhardenberg Castle and Park, Alt Friedland and the ponds around the old monastery, Kunersdorf following the footsteps of Frau von Friedland and Albrecht Thaer, Möglin, the first agricultural education center in Brandenburg founded by Albrecht Thaer, Reichenow, a neo-Gothic Tudor-style castle with a beautiful park, Prädikow with noteworthy fieldstone buildings, Prötzel Castle and Park, a disregarded creation by the already disregarded Andreas Schlüter, Kähnsdorf and Klosterfelde, one of the most beautiful villages in Barnim with wonderful fieldstone buildings. Frau von Friedland was a remarkably energetic woman who taught herself advances in agriculture and applied them on her father's estates. She trained her own specialists, who were simple farmers from the villages. Her estates flourished. She died at 48 because she contracted pneumonia from the firefighting water while combating a village fire in February 1843. Her daughter was similarly talented as her mother. Adalbert von Chamisso wrote Peter Schlemihl in Kunersdorf in summer 1813 for their children.
