4A Orvieto - Montefiascone - Bolsena

To earn the Lago di Bolsena. A crater lake has a crater rim, and one must overcome it. We choose the long, gently rising road that is tranquil and low-traffic through fields and meadows to Porano. The views back at Orvieto shorten the climb. The first goal is the abandoned town of Civita di Bagnoregio, which we pay a brief visit to. From there, those who wish can head directly down to the lake and spend the afternoon in the lively Bolsena or at the lake. However, I also offer a worthwhile detour through magnificent meadow landscapes to Montefiascone, which overlooks the round lake. There we take a lunch break, enjoy wide views, and from there we let our bikes run for 10 kilometers through olive groves and orchards down to the lakeshore. The obligatory afternoon southern wind does the rest and literally blows us the last kilometers into the tranquil Bolsena.
