The Rheinpreußen spoil tip is a 74 m high mound of mining waste built up above the surrounding area in Moers-Meerbeck. It has a total height of 103 m above sea level. Since 2001, the owner has been the Regionalverband Ruhr.

The spoil originates from the nearby Rheinpreußen coal mine, which was the first mining operation on the left bank of the Rhine. Thus, this spoil tip was also one of the first greened spoil tips in the Ruhr area. To turn the spoil tip into a landmark, the Regionalverband Ruhr decided at the end of 2005 to construct a tower approximately thirty meters high in the form of a mining lamp on the spoil tip. The design was created by the artist Otto Piene.
