Der Ellbachsee ist der See der Elfen und Wassergeister. Das Kloster Kniebis hatte einst an den Seequellen Fischteiche angelegt. Bis zum heutigen Tage bezieht das Kniebisdorf von dort durch eine Pumpleitung sein Trinkwasser.
