Die Darß-Tour

Your Darß exploration starts at the parking lot north of the Prerow harbor. Over the dyke northwards, you reach the main cycle path along the locality of Prerow. Through Villenstraße with the former hunting lodge of Prince Eitel Friedrich (house number 4), you continue westwards towards Bernsteinweg. On the opposite side of the street, you cycle on the unpaved Leuchtturmweg for about 5 km through the national park to Darßer Ort. After about 1 km of riding towards Prerow, you turn right into the k-Gestell. The paved path leads you to the Großer Stern, passing the grave of the forest ranger Ferdinand von Raesfeld, who as a forest master, hunter, and author lived and worked 23 years in Darß. Following in his footsteps, Darß explorers continue along the Linder Weg to the leisure resort of Born. In the village center, you will find the hunting and forestry museum “Ferdinand von Raesfeld” (Chausseestraße 64) with much information about the author and his works such as “The German Art of Hunting” as well as regarding the Darß forest as a notable forestry and hunting area. Following Chausseestraße eastward, you further explore the historic Born with its many thatched-roof houses worth seeing. At the exit of the village, turning right, the Bliesenrader Weg leads you towards Bliesenrade. The roadside is adorned with an ancient oak as well as the memorial plaque of the forester Freiherr von der Recke. After a pleasant ride along the dyke by the Bodden, you reach the village of Wieck a. Darß. The village center invites you, among other things, to the national park information and visitor center Darßer Arche, which presents an exhibition about the national park for interested visitors. Passing the Wieck harbor and across the Südkaten, your Darß tour leads you through the meadow landscape on paved paths back to the starting point, the harbor of Prerow.
