About This Route

This fifth section of St Ninian’s Way starts from the centre of Dumfries and proceeds west across the Nith to to join Bike Route 7, and then south along former railtrack to Carganbridge, Drumsleet and along Old Mlitary Road to Castle Douglas. This is a long leg so you may wish to stop at Hardgate or Haugh of Urr , about 7 km short of Castle Douglas.

Don’t miss the Green Wellies at Drumsleet and the Crannog on Loch Arthur.
