Circuit des Cageux - difficile/difficult
A cycling route starting in Hudson, Quebec, Canada.
Overview
About this route
Starting from the town of Hudson, you’ll head west towards Pointe-Fortune along a scenic road that follows the bank of the Ottawa River. Centuries ago, this stretch of river was the only route available to trappers, settlers and missionaries making their way to Upper Canada. If you set out on a Saturday, plan a stop at Hudson’s famous Finnegan’s Market, a friendly, bustling flea market where you can find fabulous antiques and much more.
After a short stretch over the Ontario border, be advised that your return to Quebec includes a 500 m section of unpaved gravel road. Back in Rigaud, make a quick detour to the Our Lady of Lourdes Sanctuary, where you can marvel at its famous “potato field.”
From this point, you have two options. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can make your way back to Hudson over the mountain. The spectacular view of the region from the top is well worth the effort! But if you prefer a more leisurely ride, you can take Chemin J.-René-Gauthier, which circumvents the mountain.
The first portion of this circuit will give you plenty of opportunity to warm up your calf muscles before the more challenging climb up Mont Rigaud. Take a break in one of the parks dotted along the route and be sure to taste some of the region’s delicious local products—definitely the perfect way to cap off a great day cycling! You’ll want to snap lots of pictures, as there’s no shortage of beautiful scenery.
