About this route

A challenging route on the eastern edge of Solling, which partly follows the Solling Mountainbikecup and the downhill trail in Merxhausen, as well as passing through the ruins of the Hunnesrück castle. For beginners, there is an alternative tour with half of the downhill trail without the castle ruins. We start at the holiday home in Solling and first ride to the shooting house. There we turn left into the forest onto a well-laid forest path past the barbecue area. At kilometer 3.4, there is a sign to Himmelsleiter on the left, but we go right into a narrow singletrail. The path follows the Mountainbikecup of the Sollinglauf, which takes place every year in May (just in the opposite direction). The singletrail is steep and mostly wet, but a dream for mountain bikers. After about a kilometer, you reach a barely visible logging road, where you keep left, and then it transitions back into the singletrail. At kilometer 4.8, you cross a forest path and continue straight on a wide avenue with a narrow trail in the middle. After 300 m, you take a steep right turn up the hill and follow the rooted path until you reach the forest road towards Mackensen. Here you turn right until at kilometer 6.6 you enter the Mountainbike Funpark Merxhausen almost imperceptibly. To the left are a few tree trunks with a heavily protruding branch, it's best to have a GPS with you. Allegedly, the fun park can no longer be ridden through. However, you are still on state forest land up here, further down it changes to private ownership, and you should not ride there anymore (we changed our tour accordingly). From the top, the path descends over several ramps along a rooted path until you reach a forest road, where you do not continue straight but turn right through the holiday home district towards Merxhausen. In Merxhausen, we climb up to Heukenberg. On the other side, you meet the road from Mackensen to Denkiehausen. We keep to the left and after a few meters the field path goes off to the right towards Hatop. After an ascent of 100 meters over 1.5 km, the mediocre paved road becomes a forest path again, and we turn right and stay for 1.6 km on a contour line. In a sharp left turn, you go straight on a singletrail uphill that leads us to the ruins of Hunnesrück. Here you go over some stairs and steep ascents and descents where it's better to dismount. Behind the castle ruins, there is a sign with a plan, from where a fantastic singletrail leads downhill. At an intersection with other paths, you should follow the orange arrows on the trees and eventually exit the forest. You reach the road from Dassel to Erichsburg and ride back past the swimming pool to the holiday home.
