The next circular tour of our short trip took us deep into the Harz and to the highest mountain in northern Germany, the legendary Brocken. We rode to Braunlage on deserted roads and shortly thereafter crossed the border between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. In Elend, the climb up to the Brocken began, which we did not have to ourselves. But to ride the Brocken, we gladly accepted the hustle and bustle to enjoy the wonderful view of the surroundings from the top. On the descent, we had to watch out for hikers, horse-drawn carriages, and other obstacles, so we took it rather slowly (with a few exceptions). In Wernigerode, we had not only lost 900 meters of elevation but were also on the other side of the Harz. Wernigerode with its castle is a small half-timbered house idyll where we took a well-deserved rest break. Over the Rappbodetalsperre dam to Hasselfelde, we still had to overcome some elevation before a varied circular tour through the Harz ended in Bad Sachsa. 140 KM and 2,124 meters of elevation gain
