About This Route

Kilwinning to Lochwinnoch

This 23rd section of St Ninian’s Way starts at the old Abbey were you  pick up National Cycle Route 7 going north all the way to Lochwinnoch. From Kilwinning, the path proceeds along the west bank of the River Garnock to bridge (1 km). Cross bridge and proceed to bridge over minor road (400m). Turn left, north, onto minor road and proceed through open farmland and woods to Highfield (6 km). At crossroads in Highfield continue north (NCR7) to road junction at Longbar (3 km) . Then follow bike route into Kilbirnie with Kilbirnie Loch on the right to junction with A760 (3 km). (From here you can turn left onto the A760 for 300m and visit the centre of Kilbirnie and Kilbirnie Auld Kirk). From junction with A760 continue north along former railway track, passing Barr Loch (4 km), and then into the centre of Lochwinnoch by the watersports centre (2 km).
