Гжатский тракт – торговый путь из Юхнова в Гжатск, известный с конца XVI века, который соединял степные хлебные районы с северными губерниями страны. В 1719г. Петр I издает указ о строительстве на реке Гжати пристани для вывоза товаров из южных и центральных российских губерний в столицу. Первый же хлебный караван, прибывший в Санкт-Петербург с Гжати, спас от голода тысячи строителей Ладожского канала. Петр Великий повелел считать Гжатскую пристань «житницей Петербурга».
