RUTA DE L'ARXIDUC : Valldemossa i la costa

Luis Salvador of Austria-Tuscany (1847-1915), better known as 'The Archduke', arrived in Mallorca in 1867. At first, he only intended to study insular entomology and flee from the political problems of his family: the Habsburgs. Since then, his life path has been linked to the landscape and the people of the Serra de Tramuntana. This route is an approach to his biography and to the estates he acquired in the municipalities of Valldemossa and Deià at the end of the 19th century. The Archduke was a wealthy and cultured person. Since his arrival on the island, he took an interest in the protection of the territory, cultural heritage, customs and rural traditions. Luis Salvador of Austria is the author of several works on ethnography, history, culture, and Mallorcan legends. In 1872, he acquired the estate of Miramar. Later, he bought the possessions of Són Marroig and S' Estaca.
