The fourth race of the Clash of Nations takes place in and around Sydney, Australia, the largest urban area in Oceania. In this installment of the week there is a chance for the hill specialists to shine. The start line is drawn on the Harbour Bridge, overlooking the famous Opera House. From here, the peloton travels in a northern direction along Pacific Highway towards the hills overlooking the city.
After 33 kilometers, the first real obstacle of the day, Bobbin Head, is sure to shake up the pack as it heads towards the key point of the route. From the town of Terrey Hills the riders descent towards Church Point, where they will start climbing McCarrs Creek Road. The slopes of this hill feature highly irregular gradients, making it very hard to find a rhythm. Reaching Terrey Hills at the top completes a local lap which will be done five times to separate the wheat from the chaff.
The penultimate chance for the puncheurs to make a difference is presented on Wakefield Parkway enroute back to Sydney Harbour. From here, the undulating route is just fifteen kilometers long. Clearing the final short and steep climb of Parriwi, the best hill specialist of the day rides back into North Sydney, finishing on Alfred Street.
