(08) Beaufort - Bourg-St.Maurice

The pass route begins just behind Beaufort, which can be quickly reached from the campsite located slightly outside. The route initially winds through largely wooded area in hairpin turns up to the Lac de Roselend reservoir, where there are several opportunities to refresh yourself. After that, the route continues with a view of the lake to a narrow section at the cascades of the tributary and to a treeless but flower-rich plateau, from where the pass summit, the Cormet de Roselend, is easily reached. Up here, an incomparable panoramic view opens up, which also applies to the beginning descent to the high valley of Les Chappieux. Further down, the valley narrows, the stream flows far below, and a steep section with numerous tight hairpins brings you down to the riverbed, where the road leaves the forest at Le Chatelard and guides you in a wide hairpin without a reasonable shortcut to the beautiful campsite.

Note this as one of twenty stages of a cycling tour around Switzerland. It is justified to be content with the short distance of this magnificent mountain pass road and to take time to enjoy the incomparable impressions it offers.
