From the top of the legendary Castle of Aljezur, one of seven that are represented on the flag of Portugal, contemplate the contryside views. The creeks wind along these fields with magnificent galleries of poplars, alders, ash trees, willows and tamarisks.
This stage is virtually a step-by-step summary of what the Rota Vicentina has to offer: the power of the sea breaking over ancient cliffs or onto quiet sandy beaches, an extraordinary biodiversity of fauna, tranquil forests of cork oak and meadows cultivated by men at a leisurely pace. Before arriving in Carrapateira and climbing to Cerro da Cunca, with great views over the valley and the beach of Bordeira, riders will be passing the village of Bordeira, where time seems to move slower. Stop for a cafe and a chat with whoever comes by the window or the doorstep. After magnificent views over Bordeira beach, the beauty of pristine valleys, where one can barely feel the human presence, the picturesque villages of Vilarinha and Pedralva, time now to face the strong winds that are expected with the arrival in Vila do Bispo. A section where is possible to experience the essence of the Vicentina Coast.
