A cycling route starting in Bergrheinfeld, Bavaria, Germany.
Overview
About this route
The long-distance cycling route Main-Werra begins in Würzburg on the Main cycle path and leads through the Gramschatzer Forest into the Wern Valley and onward to Schweinfurt (approx. 85 km). In Schweinfurt, it is signposted from the Main cycle path and the main train station with directional and distance signs. It initially runs through the upper Wern Valley, then crosses a small ridge and passes the baroque Thalkapelle chapel to the ancient Henneberg town of Münnerstadt. You are immediately greeted by the striking Upper Gate, while the cycle route enters the town through the equally impressive Jörgentor. Along the Lauer River, you now cycle to the Franconian Saale and then through the spa park of Bad Neustadt. The Franconian Saale accompanies the route for a few more kilometers before you ride through the Streu Valley to Mellrichstadt, which is also one of the oldest towns in the region. Here you have a choice: follow the Main-Werra cycling route sign to the Werratal at Obermaßfeld, or follow the Meiningen-Haßfurt cycling route, which is very low-traffic and 6 km shorter, reaching the Werra a few kilometers above Meiningen. The theatre town of Meiningen offers its guests numerous cultural events: exhibitions, concerts, and last but not least, performances at the Meiningen Theatre.
